Background and Goals The National Work-Life Initiative (NWLI) is a multi-year national campaign to provide education and heighten awareness of work-life effectiveness as a key business issue. Launched in the fall of 2003, the Initiative is a partnership of three key stakeholders: The Alliance for Work/Life Progress (AWLP), Fortune magazine and an Inaugural Corporate Chair, a seat occupied by the nine companies of the American Business Collaboration for Quality Dependent Care (ABC). Three major activities define the Initiative during this inaugural year: 1. AWLP and the ABC have collaborated to obtain and publicize a Congressional Resolution declaring October as National Work and Family Month. 2. Celebratory events are being planned across the country this first year by employers that will take this opportunity to showcase the progress they have made while at the same time recommitting to a redoubling of their efforts to create even more family-friendly work envirornments. 3. Fortune magazine has published the first of what will become annual work-life special advertising sections . New events and activities for subsequent years of the Initiative will be defined and supported collaboratively by AWLP and a new Corporate Chair each year.
